Interesting article thanks, I am surprised as i have found email still continues to be an effective medium.

I manage large list mailings for my customers and continue to get great responses.

One question i would wonder what kind of content you would be sending, some marketing crap or something useful to the recipient that they would welcome receiving.

email is still an effective communication tool. the general public see email as a more credible form of marketing communication, as opposed to blogs, FB/myspace, etc... Email also has the functional advantages as there is a record.

However, it is changing, mainly due to RSS. RSS reduces the amount of newsletters I sign up to. I prefer receiving RSS feeds in my reader account to help me manage all the communication i m getting. i do admit though, if it comes via email, I am more likely to read it whereas feeds can get pushed to the bottom of the pile.

Organisations need to have a multi prong strategy with email, social media, RSS, website, etc... to ensure they capture people's attention in different ways.
